Sunday Scoops 01/23/22
By: Evan1Sonic. It's Sunday and that means it's time to talk about all the gaming news this week. This has been a huge week of news with Xbox acquiring Activision Blizzard, a trailer and release date for The Cuphead Show!, Switch delays, more Nintendo 64 games on Switch, and more.
Xbox acquires Activision Blizzard. This is an ongoing story with more details to come but I'm only going to talk about the current deal today as a lot could change about Call of Duty becoming an Xbox exclusivity, the possibility of new leadership in Activision Blizzard, and other things from now to the finalization of this deal. Microsoft announced that they are purchasing publisher Activision Blizzard and all of its development studios for 68.7 Billion dollars. This is the biggest video game industry acquisition ever with the closest deal being Zynga acquired by Take-Two for 12.7 Billion. To put this in comparison even more, Disney bought Lucasfilm the creators of Star Wars for 4.05 Billion. If this purchase goes through, Xbox will become the publisher of game series such as World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Candy Crush. This deal is still in the early stages so many things can change from now to the finalization of the acquisition. I personally am stunned and surprised with this deal and I'm excited to see how it turns out in the end.
The Cuphead Show! trailer and release date. The Cuphead Show! a Netflix original series based on the hit game Cuphead is coming to the streaming service on February 18th, 2022. The show will follow Cuphead and Mugman on new adventures in Inkwell Isles. I'm excited to watch this new comedy show since I'm a big fan of the Cuphead game and I can't wait to see how faithful of an adaptation it is.
Kingdom Hearts 20th-anniversary event announced. On April 10th there will be a Kingdom Hearts 20th-anniversary event in Tokyo. At this event, there will be a mini-concert, a chat and Q&A with the development team, an exhibition, and much more. A recorded video of the event will be available at a later date (after April 10th). More info about this event will be coming soon. I'm excited to watch this event as I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan and I'm curious if there will be any mention of new games in the series.
Dying Light 2 Stay Human got delayed on Switch. Dying Light 2 Stay Human, the parkour zombie sequel to Dying Light, got delayed on Switch. The game is still releasing on February 4th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC but you'll have to wait a bit for Nintendo Switch's Cloud version of the game. Techland (developer of Dying Light 2) promises that the game will be on Switch within six months of February 4th. Hopefully, we won't have to wait long for the Switch version of this upcoming sequel.
Life is Strange Remasted Collection also got delayed on Switch. Life is Strange Remasted Collection, the remasted collection of Life is Strange Remasted and Life is Strange: Before The Storm, also got delayed on Switch. The game will still be released on February 1st for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and PC but the Nintendo Switch version of the game is delayed to later this year. A release date for the Switch version hasn't been shown yet but it's still slated for a release in 2022 so hopefully, it will release before the end of the year.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is coming to Switch next month. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, is coming to Nintendo Switch through its Online + Expansion Pack subscription service. While Nintendo has yet to give a specific release date for the game they said that it will release at some point in February (2022). I personally won't be checking out this game but it's good to see more games getting added to the service.
Banjo-Kazooie is now on Switch through its Online subscription service. Banjo-Kazooie, the highly-praised Nintendo 64 game, is now available on Nintendo Switch's Online + Expansion Pack service. I might give this game a try but I don't see myself sticking with it to credits.
Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga gameplay trailer and release date. Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga is an open-world adventure game featuring the ability to play through the events of all nine mainline Star Wars movies, explore over twenty planets, and unlock over three hundred characters. I'm incredibly excited about this game and will be picking it up on its release date. Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga launches on April 5th, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
