Refunct Review

Refunct is a game developed and published by one person Dominique Grieshofer. According to the Steam page “It is a peaceful, short first-person platformer about restoring a vibrant world” and I’d say that sums it up nicely.
Refunct is a simple game in a great way that doesn’t take away from the experience. Finishing the game is very easy and straightforward and the twenty to forty-minute runtime makes it a short but sweet experience. I’ve finished Refunct at least 5 times so far and 100% the game twice and that is because it’s so easy and enjoyable to do so. There are eighteen optional collectible cubes in total and none of them are hard to find. You just find them naturally as you play. You don’t have to worry about death either because you can't die anywhere in the game. This game also has a day/night cycle that syncs up with the music wonderfully, to make this game that much more beautiful.
The platforming is great and the jumping in this game just feels right, whether sliding under a platform or wall jumping up to a ledge. With pipes, lifts, and springboards there is no shortage of things to help you jump higher or farther. I would have liked more of these scattered throughout the world though.
The gameplay loop of jumping around filling gray platforms with green grass by touching them is so satisfying and never gets old. I especially love both the emphasis on playing at your own pace - as this game has nothing pushing you forward or backward - and the fact that there is no tutorial.
This is just such a relaxing, fun game that I recommend to anyone who is slightly interested in it. Links to the trailer and website will be at the bottom of this review. Following the theme of this game, I chose to keep this review short (and hopefully sweet).
